Sean

Resident

Sean, a military veteran and long-time resident of one of our properties, had always worked hard to maintain his independence. But over the past year, his health began to decline sharply. As his disability worsened, the stairs leading to his second-floor unit became nearly impossible to navigate. Sean grew afraid to leave his home, worried he wouldn’t be able to return safely.

Cut off from his community, he became increasingly isolated. It was clear that without a safe and accessible living environment, his well-being was at serious risk. Working closely with his Social Worker, and with the support of several dedicated partner organizations, we were able to secure a critical exception through the local housing authority, granting Sean a tenant-based voucher. That voucher opened the door to a new beginning!

Sean was soon able to move into an ADA-compliant, first-floor unit at a different PSHH property. Thanks to additional community resources, he also received new furniture and other essentials to settle in with confidence.

Today, Sean is reconnecting with his neighbors, rebuilding relationships with his family, and attending his medical appointments. Most importantly, he shares that he finally feels hopeful again – like he has a true new lease on life.

Sean is one of the 1,200+ residents who receive comprehensive supportive housing services through People’s Self-Help Housing.
