David K. Gustafson

Born in Seattle and raised on a blueberry farm in the hills outside of Issaquah, Washington, David Gustafson, now retired, had a distinguished career serving numerous housing authorities and redevelopment agencies in central and southern California.

With a Masters Degree in English, David has additionally created and run a successful small business and understanding those challenges, he is proud of managing the Redevelopment Agency of Santa Barbara, winning six project excellence awards from the California Redevelopment Association and the infrequently-given Excellence in Public Service Award from the Santa Barbara Downtown Organization.

David played a significant role in successfully guiding the Board through the transition from our retiring, very-long-term President/CEO to our current President/CEO (an often challenging journey for non-profits), while keeping the Board intact, honoring our departing CEO, and ultimately making a unanimous selection of our new CEO/President.

David is an avid cycler and canoeist who enjoys reading and spending time with his three children and two grandchildren. He lives in Santa Barbara with his wife, Nancy and two pups, Maddy and Miles.
