Highest possible rating received from nationally-recognized, congressionally-chartered organization.
Central Coast, Calif., July 9, 2019 – Peoples’ Self-Help Housing (PSHH) held onto its “Exemplary” rating as a nonprofit affordable housing developer awarded by NeighborWorks America, a nationwide network of trained and certified community development organizations serving nearly 4,500 communities across the country. PSHH has received this impressive distinction every year since joining the network in 2012.
“All facets of our organization’s work goes into the final rating, from board governance to program impact; from asset management to residents served” said John Fowler, PSHH President/CEO. “While many awards can be construed as largely symbolic, this accolade is so much more than that. Along with the pride of being in the top echelon of affordable housing developers and service providers, this assessment directly affects funding opportunities that enhance our programs and directly benefit our residents.”
Annually, members of the NeighborWorks America network are assessed on key criteria including: Production and Program Services, Resource and Financial Management and Organizational Management and Board Governance. These scores inform the organization’s rating: Exemplary, Strong, Satisfactory or Vulnerable. These regularly scheduled reviews are an effort by NeighborWorks America to ensure accountability to Congress, Office of Management and Budget, funders and taxpayers for the allocation of grant funds.
PSHH currently has a full project pipeline throughout the Central Coast. In Santa Barbara County, construction is underway for senior housing in Santa Maria as well as 38 rental units in Guadalupe. In San Luis Obispo County, 39 families are putting the finishing touches on their self-help homes in San Miguel and plan on beginning the next home builds in Los Osos later this year. PSHH also has restoration projects in-progress in Ventura County and continues to seek opportunities to further support the region.
