Carpinteria's Neediest Kids Get Day of Fun and Sun
during Third Annual "El Campo del Sol"

Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church and Peoples' Self-Help Housing Provide activities,
food and entertainment for 140 Kids
from Carpinteria Camper Park and Dahlia Court

Carpinteria, CA, July 21, 2007—Peoples’ Self-Help Housing and Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church in Montecito are guaranteeing a day of fun activities during Saturday's back to School "Fun Day" or El Campo del Sol, which will provide a day of sports, entertainment and food for Peoples’ Carpinteria Camper Park and Dahlia Court resident children. Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church in Montecito is sponsoring this special day with St. Joseph’s Church.

This year, Evon Di Miestro, the El Campo Del Sol event chair for 3 years, is pleased to accept a donation from a very special donor. Di Miestro’s daughter, Angie, has worked for months, making beautiful jewelry to save up for her first car and is selflessly donating $2500 of her earnings to El Campo del Sol.

“Peoples’ Self-Help Housing is a wonderful organization that provides many services for its residents, in addition to permanently affordable housing,” said Evon Di Miestro. “We’re excited to give these children a special day of fun and we’d like to thank everyone who has worked so hard to make it possible.”

Peoples’ Self-Help Housing took over the management of the Carpinteria Camper Park and Dahlia Court several years ago at the request of the City of Carpinteria. Both properties were burdened with run down infrastructure with many residents living in substandard conditions. Peoples’ Self-Help Housing took on this challenge to help to improve the lives of people who deserve a better quality of life. Since then, Peoples Self-Help Housing has greatly transformed the Camper Park and Dahlia Court. Both sites have Education Enhancement Program Learning Centers for these children. The Education Enhancement Program’s mission is, in conjunction with the local schools, to increase the academic performance of children in the after school program daily, year round, kindergarten through 12th grade, and includes the collaboration between families, the public schools, and our educators.

Peoples’ Self-Help Housing is an award winning non-profit organization with 36 years of experience developing affordable housing and community facilities for low-income and special needs households. With over 1000 homes completed and over 1200 rental units owned and managed by Peoples’ Self-Help Housing, PSHH continues to strengthen its reputation and leadership position as the premiere affordable housing and community developer on the Central Coast. PSHH is committed to developing vibrant neighborhoods, build attractive, high quality housing and to provide innovative community services, so their residents have every possible opportunity to succeed in life.
