Tireless Contributions? Compassionate Dedication?

All in a day’s work for Santa Maria resident Mary Solorio Jacka

Santa Maria, CA, July 5, 2006—Long-time board member of Peoples’ Self-Help Housing, Mary Solorio Jacka has worked tirelessly to improve the lives of farm workers living in Santa Maria. She was a key leader in the development of Los Adobes de Maria, Peoples’ Self-Help Housing apartment complexes built specifically for low income farm workers. She has also been a Community Worker with California Rural Legal Assistance (CRLA) for over 20 years and she helped found the Interfaith Community Organizing Project which is a coalition of 19 churches that advocate for the poor. On Friday, July 7th, at 5 pm, Mary Solorio Jacka will be honored for her charitable and indefatigable efforts in a special event at Los Adobes de Maria, followed by a barbeque. Welcome and recognition speeches will begin at 5:30 pm. Peoples’ Self-Help Housing will present Mary with a plaque that will be installed in the meeting room, named after her. Those invited to the event include City and County officials, representatives of CRLA, Peoples’ Self-Help Housing board members and staff, as well as tenants of Los Adobes de Maria who have been impacted by Mary’s compassionate dedication and are still living in the apartment complex. The event is not open to the general public.
