"Project of the Year" Award Presented to Peoples' Self-Help Housing by So. Cal. Association of Non-Profit Housing

Affordable Housing Group Receives Top Award for River View Complex in Guadalupe at the 17th Annual Housing Conference in LA

Santa Barbara/San Luis Obispo, September 30, 2005—Peoples' Self-Help Housing is honored today to receive the "Project of the Year" Award from the Southern California Association of Non-Profit Housing (SCANPH) for its Riverview Complex in Guadalupe.

SCANPH celebrates the housing industry’s accomplishments each year by recognizing outstanding achievement through the "Affordable Housing Awards." Recognizing that it takes a team of people and organizations to build quality affordable housing, award categories by SCANPH members are chosen by a committee of prior awardees. The "Project of the Year" is the top prize for a housing development

River View Estates is a development of 50 homes which were built by their new owners as part of PSHH's Self-Help Home Ownership Program. This program teaches low-income families financial and construction skills, and requires each family to contribute a minimum of 1,200 hours of construction labor. All 50 families are first time home owners, with their "sweat equity" used in lieu of a cash down-payment.

River View Townhomes is an attractive, permanently affordable rental community of 80 rental units adjacent to River View Estates. The development includes a 5,000 sq. ft. community center with health clinic and a 5,000 sq. ft. learning center. The health clinic and learning center are open to residents of River View Estates and Townhomes.

The SCANPH Award was given out at an awards ceremony at the Wilshire Grand Hotel in Los Angeles during the 17th annual Housing Conference.

Peoples' Self-Help Housing is an award winning non-profit organization with 35 years of experience developing affordable housing and community facilities for low-income and special needs households.
