Grand Opening Celebration for Farm Worker Housing

The Mayor and City Council of Santa Maria Host Event Along with Peoples' Self-Help Housing

Santa Maria, April 27, 2005—Los Adobes de Maria II is the second phase of a permanently affordable town home rental complex, built and developed by Peoples' Self-Help Housing—totaling 117 units at both phases. The project has been hailed as a model solution to address the lack of affordable housing for farm workers and their families. The first phase of Los Adobes de Maria helped the City of Santa Maria win the All America City Award in 2000. Los Adobes de Maria II even drew attention for its innovative concept from Paul Venosdel, California Director of USDA Rural Development, who visited the site last April.

Los Adobes de Maria II features two and three bedroom rentals, a community meeting space with kitchen, health screening and treatment facility, learning center (with onsite educator), a new soccer field and basketball court. These amenities are available and shared by all tenants of phase I and II.
