When Johan’s dad could no longer work due to a terminal diagnosis, Johan’s family struggled to find an affordable place to live until landing at a PSHH property in Santa Barbara County. After moving in, his family found themselves with new community resources, plenty of space for him and his siblings, and a safe neighborhood to call home. Then in Kindergarten, Johan joined Camino Scholars, PSHH’s on-site, after-school education program.
When his dad passed away, Johan and his family received loving support and wrap-around services from the PSHH team, including their social worker and Camino Scholars educators. This extra level of built-in care, helped the family keep moving ahead in the face of a devastating loss.
A year after his dad’s passing, Johan received an award for “Most Improved Student” in his third grade class! His mom shared, “I don’t think I would have been able to survive after my husband passed if it wasn’t for all the amazing support we received from PSHH!”
