PSHH Loses One of their Own: Lindal Iverson

Lindal Iverson
After ten years of homelessness
Lindal found a home at PSHH

Lindal grew up in Santa Barbara. A Vietnam War veteran, he enlisted from Santa Barbara in the U.S. Navy in 1965, where he served in the Landing Craft Unit. Recently, Lindal revealed that he had lost an entire decade dealing with the demons created by his war experience and was often homeless during this period.

He finally found peace when he started living at PSHH's Victoria Hotel. He was asked to be Assistant Property Manager in 2002. Early this year he moved to Peoples' new Casas Las Granadas housing next to the Granada Theatre. He helped there whenever possible with the nearby Public Art Space Project being constructed by Peoples' Self-Help Housing.

Lindal is survived by his brothers Walter Iverson, Shelby Richards, and Victor Richards, sisters Shelba Richards and Deeola Gonzalez, and 13 nieces and nephews. Donations in Lindal's memory can be sent to PSHH, 26 E. Victoria, Santa Barbara, CA 93101.

Financial Education Workshops a Popular PSHH Program

The free financial education workshops offered by People's Self-Help Housing have been well attended in San Luis Obispo and Santa Barbara counties. Facilitated by PSHH Housing Counselor Brian Kerrigan, seminars are conducted on "First Time Home Buyer Education" and "Foreclosure Prevention".

With current concerns about adjustable rate mortgages, the foreclosure prevention seminars and one-on-one housing counseling have been especially popular. Kerrigan has personally helped several households save their homes from foreclosure by securing loan modifications, implementing tight budgeting for households to reduce costs, and other techniques. "The People's staff really worked to save my home. They were able to talk the lender in order to give me some options," stated a Santa Maria resident.

Visit the Upcoming Events page for more information and schedules.
