YEEP Hosts "Lights On" Afterschool Event October 16th in Paso Robles

Lights On Afterschool

Paso Robles' Canyon Creek youth education program will participate in "Lights On Afterschool on Thursday, October 16 at the complex located at 400 Oak Hill Road. Community members, parents, school personnel, and civic leaders are invited to attend the free event from 4:00 - 6:00 p.m. Lights On Afterschool is celebrated in 7,500 communities nationwide to call attention to the importance of quality afterschool program for America's children and families. More than one million are expected to participate nationwide.

According to center director Jamie Walker, the celebration will feature a children's 'light bulb' art show, parent math event, entertainment and refreshments. Attendees will also see the Youth Education Enhancement Program (YEEP) in action. PSHH is the lead agency for the five-year 21st Century Community Learning Centers Program grant which provides free quality afterschool homework assistance program for four Paso Robles elementary schools.

"On October 16, all across the country, we will send the message that Americans want to keep the lights on for children. Afterschool programs give children safe places to go with educational, enriching activities after the school day ends," stated Walker.

Fair Weather at Santa Barbara Downtown Organization Mixer Fair Weather at Santa Barbara Downtown Organization Mixer

The Downtown Organization's Members Mixer attracted a crowd of 250 to the Perch at the Canary Hotel in Santa Barbara.

The event was co-sponsored by Peoples' and the Santa Barbara Independent newspaper. Downtown workers and company executives joined together on the hotel's lofty rooftop and enjoyed the 360-degree view of the mountains, the sea, and the cityscape. It was a wonderful opportunity for PSHH staff to share the story about Peoples' and make new friends in the business and corporate world.
