All Saints Makes a Splash in Carpinteria

All Saints Makes a Splash in Carpinteria

All Saints Makes a Splash in Carpinteria Members of All-Saints-by-the-Sea Episcopal Church of Montecito recently pitched in to stain almost 2,000 linear feet of weathered bare wood fences at Chapel Court in Carpinteria. PSHH took over the property management of the 28-unit farm worker housing and has been making some much-needed improvements. All Saints identified the need at this housing complex, purchased the materials, and organized the joint work activity with the residents and Westmont College volunteers. With lots of helping hands the project was completed by 2 p.m. on a Saturday and a traditional community meal was shared by all in celebration. Many thanks to All-Saints-by-the-Sea for selecting Peoples' as a 'focus project' in 2010!

Santa Maria YEEP new ASES SiteSanta Maria YEEP new ASES Site

Peoples' Los Adobes de Maria II Learning Center will be a new location of an ASES-funded after school education program in Santa Maria. PSHH is the newest site in the "After School Education and Safety" (ASES) Program directed by the Santa Maria-Bonita School District that currently serves 1,200 students a day during the school year. The Los Adobes site will provide academic, educational enrichment, and recreational activities for three hours a day for 35 students of Bonita Elementary and Arellanes Jr. High Schools. Alejandra Mahoney served as the Educator at Los Adobes since 2006. Rochelle Rose manages the Youth Education Enhancement Program at five Learning Centers in Paso Robles, Guadalupe, Santa Maria, Santa Barbara, and Carpinteria serving 250 children. YEEP has been successful in closing the achievement gap by providing children opportunities to develop skills and competency in an environment that values love of learning and achievement.

Planned Giving Corner

Occasionally I receive the question: What is planned giving? I am so glad when someone asks! Here is a simple definition: planned giving is a set of ways a donor can leave money/assets to a nonprofit at his/her death; or a way to invest money so that the donor receives benefits during his/her life and then bequeaths the remaining funds to the nonprofit. Simply, planned Giving is a program of various financial instruments that can be adapted to each donor's needs. Planned giving is also called gift planning or deferred giving.

If you would like to know more about planned giving or donating to PSHH, please contact me at (805) 962-5152 x227 or rocheller@pshhc.org.
