It is better than I could have ever imagined."
In 2011 Rose gained the courage to leave an abusive situation she had been living in for years. In addition to being mistreated by family members, they were stealing money from the limited income she received for her disability. Her strength of character enabled Rose to leave this situation even though she had nowhere to go and very little income. Rose found herself alone and living out of her car. Then the car broke down and needed to be repaired. Rose decided to go to the SLO Veteran's Administration to get a referral for a reputable mechanic. As luck would have it, they were having a Veterans health and wellness forum. This is where Rose met Brittany Carraway, PSHH social worker, who was working at an information table! Brittany told her about the rapid-re-housing program available to homeless veterans to gain housing. Through this program she received financial assistance that paid her first month's rent at one of Peoples' senior apartments. _________________________________________________________________________ Stuff the Bus Campaign a Big Success
_________________________________________________________________________ Washington DC TrainingPeoples' senior staffers CFO John Fowler and Rental Development Dept. Director John Kukulka recently attended the NeighborWorks Training Institute in Washington DC. It was a great opportunity to meet with other Neighbor-Works affiliates from around the country to share and learn from each other.
NW provided a weeklong training environment in many areas of non profit affordable housing, such as housing production management, business models, etc. These conferences, as well as grant funding opportunities, are just some of the benefits that Peoples' has realized since being awarded a Neighbor-Works charter in 2011. _________________________________________________________________________ Staff AdditionsPerea Joins TDG
