New Marshalls Store Helps Peoples

New Marshalls Store Helps Peoples

Marshalls Grand Opening is just around the corner, and Marshalls has chosen Peoples' Self-Help Housing as their charity recipient! On Thursday, August 4, 2011, Marshalls will present Peoples' with a check for $5,000 at the ribbon cutting celebration event.

The Grand Opening will take place at 7:30 a.m. at 900 State Street at Canon Perdido in downtown Santa Barbara. Join us at the check presentation and be the first see the new store and get in some early shopping!

Marshalls District Manager Karen L. Brown stated, "When I announced to the employees that we had selected Peoples' Self-Help Housing as the charity recipient of a $5,000 donation, 20 employees immediately stood up and clapped. Then the entire room of employees stood up with a standing ovation. I think we picked the right charity! I have never seen anything like that at any other of our other store openings--it was thrilling."

93 full and part time jobs have been created with plans to hire another 15 new employees after the opening.

Foreclosure Prevention Program Saves Home

Foreclosure Prevention Program Saves Home
Housing Counselor Brian Kerrigan at recent workshop.

Letter to PSHH from a grateful client: "My wife and I want to let you know how very much we appreciate your Housing Counselor Brian Kerrigan and all the time and effort he spent helping us secure our home loan restructure. The numerous letters, phone calls, and faxes that me made to the bank on our behalf were amazing.

He also shepherded us through the loan restructure process, directing us as to what information the lender would want. He assembled our packet for submission with expertise and made a generally lengthy, tedious process much easier. It was reassuring to know that someone with his acumen and pleasant demeanor was on our side. We are confident that his thoroughness and attention to detail were instrumental in our successful loan restructure agreement that saved our home. We are very grateful for all your help. Sincere thanks, JDM"

Resident Success Thanks to Supportive Housing Program

Born and raised in Texas, Ron grew up playing basketball. He excelled on his high school team and earned an athletic scholarship to college. During his college years, Ron struggled with substance abuse, dropped out of college, and soon found himself living on the street. Eventually, he landed at Casa Esperanza, a temporary shelter in Santa Barbara. The shelter connected him with Peoples' Self-Help Housing. He was placed him in affordable housing with the help of Supportive Housing Program case workers with whom he worked to regain stability in his life.

After eight years away from school, Ron just finished his first year at Santa Barbara City College with excellent grades! His goal is to be a drug and alcohol counselor.

The Supportive Housing Program is a confidential and voluntary social services program, free to PSHH residents. SHP clinicians provide "hands-on" assistance to help residents gain access to needed community services. The goal of the program is to ensure that all residents, including those transitioning from homelessness to permanent housing, live stable, independent lives.

Paso Robles Fun Run Benefits PSHH

Fun RunMark your calendars for the 13th Annual Family Fun Run at City Park on September 25.Organized by Heritage Oaks Bank, the Fun Run is one of the most successful family running events in the country. In past years over $350,000 has been raised for local nonprofit organizations. This year, Peoples' is one of four benefit charities. When you sign up, check the box for PSHH and 100% of your entry fee will be donated to Peoples.

This 10K Championship has attracted some of the world's top international and Olympic athletes, but the big-time running event has a small town feel. Participants receive a pancake breakfast, water, pizza, commemorative race medal and teeshirt. Sign up online at hobfunrun or register at Paso Robles City Park on Sat., September 24, 11 a.m. - 4 p.m. Hope to see you there!
